The Merlin Theatre
The Merlin Theatre organise a variety of arts-based activities for children and young people. We run 6 different weekly groups. In the Summer and other school holidays there are various workshops on offer including a Youth Theatre Summer School. Our community pantomime in December has roles for children and young people. Suitable for experienced breakers poppers and lockers of all ages – and gender!
Big Time Breakerz Mondays 5pm – 6pm term time only. This group teaches the basic foundations and
techniques behind Breaking Popping and Locking. Suitable for beginner breakers of all ages.
Glee Club (Tri.art Theatre School) Tuesdays 4.30pm – 6pm term time only. 7-12 years. Inspired by the hit TV Series “Glee”, this Club will provide opportunities for children of all ages and abilities to combine a mix of singing, drama and dance, learning vocal technique, performance skills, and choreography using pop songs from all eras.
Merlin Tap Class Wednesdays 7pm – 7.45pm term time only. A new class for mixed age groups, 13yrs through to adults. Whether dancing for pleasure or finding a fun way to help improve your fitness, no experience is necessary.
Youth Theatre (Tri.art Theatre School) Wednesdays 5pm – 6pm term time only. 12-18 yrs. The group will explore a variety of drama techniques, including character work and interpreting scripts, steering original ideas towards creating a quality public performance. It will provide participants with a range of skills which are valuable both on and off stage as well as boosting confidence. Students will gain from the experience of working with guest theatre professionals and will be encouraged to attend performances.
Drama Club (Tri.art Theatre School) Saturdays 10am to 12noon term time only. 8 – 12 yrs. The aim of this group is to encourage the children’s enthusiasm for the performing arts. In each workshop a story from a famous children’s author is brought to life turning the story inside out and upside down, always ending up with one big piece of imaginative theatre! At the end of each term the group put on a 40-minute show for parents based on the children’s own ideas.
